Church history

Abundant Life Assembly of God began in 1990, when the calling to love and serve the Stafford community beckoned the heart of Pastor Tommy and Ruth Winstead. The church started in the basement home of dear friends Bob and Nancy Randall, only to outgrow in a few weeks, and the search for a church building was of utmost importance. However, the journey took them into temporary places like a fire station/community center then to a small, quite old church building, at the bottom of the hill on Onville Rd. Finally, in 1993, Pastor Tommy, and a miraculous blessing from the Lord, twelve and a half acres of land was bought at a fraction of the price, and the literal building of the church officially began. The church was completed in 1999 when they moved into the building, and the family of God has been reaping the blessings and benefits of it ever since.
After 30+ years in ministry, Pastor Tommy and Ruth felt it was time to retire. Not from doing the Lord's work, which is evident in their lives every day, but from the lead role of pastoring at Abundant Life. We are blessed beyond measure to have them continue be a part of the church as they volunteer and help in a variety of ways. Jesus says, "and on this rock I will build My church; and the gates of [hell] will not overpower it" (Matthew 16:18, AMP). They are the first to say that this church was never theirs to have but only for a time. Their heart's desire is for this church and God's will to carry on in ways they couldn't have ever imagined.
